Board Meeting Week

Some interesting things happened on this day in history. Times Square got its name 100 years ago on April 8. Hammering Hank Aaron broke the all time homerun record on April 8. Nine years ago, Ariel and I were married on April 8. We celebrated our 9 years by going out for Sushi at a restaurant called Blue Ribbon in Soho. The food, ambiance, and service were all excellent and we had a great time. The only curious thing was the jazz music that filled the air. I am always amused at how out of place most music is at ethnic restaurants. Guess I need to let go of some stereotypes.

On Friday I’m taking my Big Apple attitude on the road for week of board meetings. My friend Andrew Gosse and I are going to skateboard and snowboard until our legs fall off. Andrew and I met when Ariel and he worked together at adidas. I stopped in for lunch one day and we shared a similar interest in skate boarding. We started hitting skate parks together and when winter hit, he invited me snowboarding. I immediately became addicted. Andrew is 7 years my junior so I end up chasing him around most of the time but he is a good sport about it. I can’t tell whether he tries to get me to try new maneuvers so he can laugh when I fall or help me to improve – probably a mixture of both.

I land in Portland on Friday afternoon and hope to hit the Newberg skate park for a session with Pintglass comrade Brendon. We are then going to have pizza at Brendon’s new house and spend time with his wife Amy and son Truman (little dude has his own page!). Andrew and I will then board at Mt. Hood on Saturday and Sunday and then I’ll have the opportunity to have Easter dinner with my family – looking forward to that.

On Monday we’ll head up to Vancouver B.C. in search of a new indoor skate park. The rest of the week we are going to board at Whistler. Should be a hoot. I have not done any serious exercise in over six months so I am taking a full bottle of Advil with me. I’m sure by the end of the week I’ll be feeling it big time.

This will be my first time out of the NYC area since we moved back in November. It will be interesting to be in some more laid back and slow paced places. I have developed a little bit of a hard-edged city attitude in the short time I have been here. We’ll see how I do out of my new element.

So the blog is going to go dark while I am gone. I hope to have lots of pictures, stories, and videos to post when I get back. Cheers!
